Exhibitors Case Study
BIANZ Exhibit

In 2006, the Baking Industry Association of New Zealand (BIANZ) participated in its first-ever Coca-Cola Careers Expo event in Auckland. The expo was identified as an ideal medium for promoting baking as an industry and as a career choice.
Based on the success of the first-year initiative, the BIANZ participated in the full series of Expo events in 2007.
The BIANZ exhibit was designed as a Live Baking Kitchen hosted by bakers and apprentices. Current and recent baking apprentices, as well as sponsors, were on-hand as Exhibit Hosts to interact with visitors and talk about the realities of baking as a career. Exhibit hosts were also involved in baking and helping with the general operation of the Baking Kitchen.
Participation in the Careers Expo was a resounding success for BIANZ. The interactive exhibit was highly effective in:
-
Engaging visitors to the Expo.
-
Raising the profile of the baking industry – as evidenced by comments from visitors indicating they had never considered baking as a career until attending the Expo.
-
Building a database of prospective baking apprentices.
-
Highlighting long-term career opportunities to potential apprentices e.g. potential career paths, working environments, etc.
BIANZ Feedback
“There is huge demand in our industry for apprentices. In 2006, we sought to communicate with potential apprentices about baking career opportunities. We participated in the Auckland Careers Expo, and went on to design and produce a standout exhibit that was both effective and interactive. We generated more than 700 qualified leads for baking apprentices at one event. In 2007, we took our interactive commercial baking kitchen exhibit to a series of four Careers Expo events across New Zealand and it was a huge success.”
